Abnormal Bleeding
Abnormal bleeding can have several potential causes, including:
- Menstrual irregularities: Irregular periods, heavy bleeding, or spotting between periods can be a sign of hormonal imbalances, pregnancy complications, or uterine fibroids.
- Uterine or cervical cancer: Cancer of the uterus or cervix can cause abnormal bleeding, especially in postmenopausal women.
- STIs: Certain sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia or gonorrhea, can cause vaginal bleeding.
- Polyps or growths: Noncancerous growths, such as polyps, in the uterus or cervix can cause abnormal bleeding.
- Medications: Certain medications, such as blood thinners, can cause abnormal bleeding.
If you are experiencing abnormal bleeding, it is important to see a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment. This may include medication, counseling, and/or lifestyle changes, as well as further testing, such as a pelvic exam, ultrasound, or biopsy.
In the meantime, it is important to track your menstrual cycle and any changes in your bleeding patterns, and to avoid sexual contact or use condoms during sexual activity to reduce the risk of STIs. You should also practice good hygiene and attend regular gynecological check-ups.
